Surgery!

When I woke up yesterday morning, I had no idea that a few hours later I would find myself being prepped for surgery! On Tuesday I started having a lot of bleeding and it lasted through the night. So I was told Wednesday morning by my doctor to go into the ER. I didn't want Lyv exposed to the ER, so I drove myself and spent the next few hours alone in the ER while Daniel took care of Lyv at home.

After several hours, I was admitted and was given a bed in the Labor and Delivery ward. At that point, Daniel and Lyv came up and joined us in the room. My doctor and nurses that I know were able to take over my care from there. An ultrasound showed a few very small pieces of placenta left in my uterus. This was causing irritation and bleeding and preventing my uterus from fully clamping down.

At 3pm, I was prepped for surgery and put under general anesthesia for a D and C. Basically the doctor has to go in with tools and scrape and suction out my uterus to get everything out. Luckily we were able to go home a few hours after surgery. Now I am on meds to make my uterus contract more (owie!) and also feeling a little sore from the surgery. Plus I'm not able to breastfeed for 24 hours after the surgery because of the narcotics they gave me. :-(

We are all doing well though and looking forward to a restful weekend. Hopefully the drama is over!
