Officially I am 12 weeks tomorrow, but the baby is measuring 2 days ahead of schedule... so 12 weeks is about right. We're so grateful we made it this far. The first 12 weeks can be full of complications... especially for women with lupus and a clotting disorder. So we are celebrating a huge milestone tonight!
The baby is measuring right on schedule with a heart beat of 163... very normal. Not only that, but both the doctor and nurse felt very confident with what gender they were seeing. Daniel and I are still in the dark though because we're going to have a gender cake party (I'll explain the cake party later). Here's how things played out:
The nurse and the doctor both took a look at my ultrasound and they both came up with an independent assessment of whether it's a boy or a girl... and their predictions matched. They also both felt "very confident" with what they were predicting. My perinatologist (high risk ob), looked at the screen for about 10 seconds and he said, "Yeah, I feel confident that I know what this is."
I'm so excited to find out! The nurse wrote down what we're having and put it in a sealed envelope. The way the gender cake party works is that we will take the sealed envelope to a bakery and they will bake a blue cake if it's a boy, and a pink cake if it's a girl. Then they will cover it with white frosting so you can't tell. We will cut into the cake with all our friends and family around and we will all find out together! Needless to say, I've already ordered the cake!
Now check out the video I took... the second half is the best part.
